Happy 1st birthday to us!
Wow.. we realized that, one year ago today, we launched our business (and our group on Facebook). It’s hard to believe that was a year ago. Thinking over all the challenges since then, it feels like an eternity ago but yet, somehow, seems like just last week. We launched with a basic structure, a crazy idea and a LOT of determination. So after a year of business, we think this is a great opportunity to talk a little about our history as a shop, why we are here and what we have in store for the future.
We started the business originally as “Raleigh Scuba Classes”, because that is where our focus was going to be; teaching scuba in a way we felt was best for the students & instructors. The idea was simple, we pledged to spend more time diving with classes, consistently teach the “whys” of the current skill we are doing, being more available for students questions and, honestly, putting the passion we have for diving into action.
To accomplish this goal, we brought in people we trusted (instructors, friends, etc), at the development level, to help accomplish our end goal. We wanted EVERYONE’s opinions at this stage because nothing great comes out of a bubble. Sadly, as things happen, we had our entire business plan, development website, etc given to outside competitors. This started a cavalcade of accusations, stories, etc which made us realize we simply weren’t reaching high enough. We needed to be a fully functioning location if we wanted to effect change.
The only reason we say this is NOT to point fingers at anyone (after all, some people are just jerks), but to say this is exactly WHY we are here. We want to change our community for the better. We LOVE this community and our business plan is simple… to make scuba diving better in every way possible. We take this mentality and apply it to ALL of our business initiatives (training, community outreach, education, customer service, etc).
When we found out our internal business plan had been given away, that was the very moment Raleigh Scuba Diving LLC, the company and the group you see today, was born. It solidified our goals and hardened our resolve to be the absolute best resource we can be for this amazing sport. To be a resource, both online and in-person, for every diver, regardless of your experience or skill level. It’s why we welcome everyone to our meetings (ok, most everyone) and freely recommend other businesses who can either help with something we can’t or even simply be a better resource for our customer. We love diving and we want to share that passion with the community.
Reflecting back upon our first year in business, we are so proud to have grown from a simple concept with scary few physical resources into a full fledged training facility with our own resources to support our students & customers. After a year since we “launched”, we now hold scuba classes almost every weekend, are growing our instructor base, fleshing out our charter schedules, creating unique trips and educational opportunities and simply marching to our own drum. It is our firm belief not only can our area benefit from another dive shop, but we are filling a void that was sorely needed by doing things our way; education, availability and an unapologetic approach to training. Based on the industry and business response we’ve received, we KNOW we are on the right path.
Our goal was to cultivate a business that thinks of our clients like our family, and we train each member of that family to take care of each other. We are so proud our original focus has not only taken hold, but flourished.
We would not be here without you! Whether you are only a member of our online group, a future/current/previous student, a customer or just someone who likes the vibe, we are glad you are here and we thank you for your amazing support! Our first year gave us many surprises & challenges but we also received more support than we could have ever dreamed of.
So, thank you for your support both in person and online. Raleigh Scuba Diving would not be here without you. We are so excited for our future and excited to share our continued journey with you.
A photo from our 1st ever “official” Raleigh Scuba Diving meeting. We launched by having a campout at Fantasy lake Adventure park on the infamous “cliffs” overlooking the water.
The turnout and support we had was overwhelming. Regardless of what our future holds, this is at the core of who we are. A group of like minded individuals coming together.
We discussed our mission goals for the company and had discussions with almost everyone here on what they wanted to see from a dive shop. For all intents and purposes, this is truly where our business plan was formed and our family mentality was forged. Every single person in this photo (along with the ones who aren’t shown), are our family.
